OST - Ostschweizer Fachhochschule

Short Bio

Yuriy obtained his BSc in Civil Engineering from the University of Bologna and MSc in Civil Engineering with specialisation in Structural Engineering and Wind Engineering from Politecnico di Milano, where he defended his thesis investigating pressure peaks on building facades. After graduation he worked as a wind engineering specialist on a team in charge of design and construction of The Extremely Large Telescope (ELT) dome structure.

Research

Yuriy’s research is focused on developing a Decision Support Systems for Digital Twin platforms that employ Multi-fidelity FSI - CFD simulations, Machine Learning, and Uncertainty Quantification along with Knowledge Engineering methods for data represntation and management to solve engineering challenges relative to monitoring and operation of HAWTs.

In 2020, Yuriy joined the Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring as a Ph.D. student at the ETH Zurich and OST - Ostschweizer Fachhochschule, working for on the SNSF Bridge funded project Aerosesne: a novel MEMS-based surface pressure and acoustic IoT measurement system for wind turbines. Aerosense project is a collaborative effort between the Chair of Structural Mechanics and Monitoring, Wind Energy Innovation Team at OST, and ETH’s Center for Project-Based Learning.
